Free International Calls from PC to Phone with Google Talk and Talkster (GTalk-to-VoIP)

Free international calling service is hard to come by, after all, commercial telephone companies or phone communication operators need to pay connection fee to receiving called party’s providers no matter the calls are made to land line, cell phone or satellite phone, and regardless of it’s a trunk, toll or VoIP calls. Lots of sites that offer free worldwide phone calls has now defunct, e.g. AllFreeCalls. Most established PC-to-Phone or VoIP operators such as MediaRing gives free calls to limited countries or destinations as promotion to attract users.

There is another opportunity for free international phone calls in from PC to phone style, by using Google Talk, and Talkster integration with GTalk2VoIP. The partnership, using ad-supported business model, allows callers from anywhere worldwide in every countries free international, long distance and group conference calls by leveraging on Google Talk. And callers able to call to more than 30 countries supported by Talkster’s network completely free, or partially free (caller portion) for anywhere else in the world.

The free international calls by dialing from GTalk instant messaging client is especially beneficial to areas with strictly regulated VoIP and telecom practices, such as India, Africa and Middle East countries such as United Arab Emirates, where using Talkster through GTalk2VoIP will let people communicate freely between mobile phones, landlines and PCs, even in countries not currently supported through Talkster’s ad supported free calling service.

To take advantage of free international calling via Google Talk via Talkster, follow these steps:

  1. Run Google Talk desktop client. Download and install Google Talk if you haven’t.
  2. Click on the Add button on Google Talk to add contacts into Google Talk, as the same usual way.
  3. Type in the phone number of the person you want to call in the following format:

    complete-full-phone-number@talkster.gtalk2voip.com

The complete full phone number must include country code and area code. For example, a telephone number in UK will have the following phone number assigned in GTalk: 442071234567@talkster.gtalk2voip.com, or for USA, 12125551212@talkster.gtalk2voip.com.

  4. A confirmation instant message will be sent by Talkster for instructions together with a local Talkster call-in number on how to place the free international calls for both calling party and called party. Typically, Talkster assigns a local Talkster number for calling party (the person you want to call) in their country, which allows he or she to incur only cheap local call charge (which may be free in some countries).

  5. To place the free international call to your friend, click on friend’s number in the Google Talk Contact List.

  6. Click on the Call button to start the call.
  7. Talkster will dial out to the calling phone number from Google Talk.
  8. When the calling party answers, there is 10 seconds for caller to check to see if he’s available to talk, and to instruct the answering party to hang up and callback using the caller’s local Taskster phone number in that country.
  9. Wait while the calling party hangs up and calls back using the Talkster local number for the caller. Ensure that the calling party knows this number, else send the phone number to him or by email or IM. If the phone number is a mobile phone number, an SMS with Talkster call-in number will be sent to the cellphone too. The call recipient or the calling party must calls back in for the international call to be connected.

Note that Talkster uses Caller ID to recognize who to connect the call to, so Caller ID must not be disabled or suppressed.

  10. As soon as the ‘original calling party’ calls in, Talkster and GTalk2VoIP connect both caller and called party into an international call where talkers can talk as long as you want for free.
  11. When finished talking, just end the call. Users are welcome to call as often as possible.

Currently, Talkster has local numbers in more than 30 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

Calling fixed line, landline, mobile, cell or any phone number of supported international destinations or countries from Google Talk via Talkster and GTalk2VoIP integration is always free, and no credit card, no sign-up and no registration required, no catches, no limites, and no conditions attached, and free usage is unlimited. Toyota Announces Comprehensive Plan to Fix Accelerator Pedals on Recalled Vehicles and Ensure Customer Safety

TORRANCE, Calif., February 1, 2010 – Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A., Inc., today announced it will begin fixing accelerator pedals in recalled Toyota Division vehicles this week. Toyota’s engineers have developed and rigorously tested a solution that involves reinforcing the pedal assembly in a manner that eliminates the excess friction that has caused the pedals to stick in rare instances. In addition, Toyota has developed an effective solution for vehicles in production.

Parts to reinforce the pedals are already being shipped for use by dealers, and dealer training is under way. Many Toyota dealers will work extended hours to complete the recall campaign as quickly and conveniently as possible, some even staying open 24 hours a day. The company has also taken the unprecedented action of stopping production of affected vehicles for the week of February 1.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety and reliability of the vehicles our customers drive,” said Jim Lentz, president and Chief Operating Officer, TMS. “We deeply regret the concern that our recalls have caused for our customers and we are doing everything we can – as fast as we can – to make things right. Stopping production is never an easy decision, but we are 100% confident it was the right decision. We know what’s causing the sticking accelerator pedals, and we know what we have to do to fix it. We also know it is most important to fix this problem in the cars on the road.”
Lentz added: “We are focused on making this recall as simple and trouble-free as possible, and will work day and night with our dealers to fix recalled vehicles quickly. We want to demonstrate that our commitment to safety is as high as ever and that our commitment to our customers is unwavering.”
On January 21, Toyota announced its intention to recall approximately 2.3 million select Toyota Division vehicles equipped with a specific pedal assembly and suspended sales of the eight models involved in the recall on January 26.
Toyota vehicles affected by the recall include:

• Certain 2009-2010 RAV4
• Certain 2009-2010 Corolla
• 2009-2010 Matrix
• 2005-2010 Avalon
• Certain 2007-2010 Camry
• Certain 2010 Highlander
• 2007-2010 Tundra
• 2008-2010 Sequoia

No Lexus Division or Scion vehicles are affected by these actions. Also not affected are Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser, Highlander hybrids and certain Camry models, including Camry hybrids, all of which remain for sale.

Further, Camry, RAV4, Corolla and Highlander vehicles with Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) that begin with "J" are not affected by the accelerator pedal recall.

In the event that a driver experiences an accelerator pedal that sticks in a partial open throttle position or returns slowly to idle position, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes. The brakes should not be pumped repeatedly because it could deplete vacuum assist, requiring stronger brake pedal pressure. The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location, the engine shut off and a Toyota dealer contacted for assistance.

Detailed information and answers to questions about issues related to this recall are available to customers at www.toyota.com/recall and at the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

How Toyota Will Fix Recalled Vehicles

Toyota has pinpointed the issue that could, on rare occasions, cause accelerator pedals in recalled vehicles to stick in a partially open position. The issue involves a friction device in the pedal designed to provide the proper “feel” by adding resistance and making the pedal steady and stable. The device includes a shoe that rubs against an adjoining surface during normal pedal operation. Due to the materials used, wear and environmental conditions, these surfaces may, over time, begin to stick and release instead of operating smoothly. In some cases, friction could increase to a point that the pedal is slow to return to the idle position or, in rare cases, the pedal sticks, leaving the throttle partially open.

Toyota’s solution for current owners is both effective and simple. A precision-cut steel reinforcement bar will be installed into the assembly that will reduce the surface tension between the friction shoe and the adjoining surface. With this reinforcement in place, the excess friction that can cause the pedal to stick is eliminated. The company has confirmed the effectiveness of the newly reinforced pedals through rigorous testing on pedal assemblies that had previously shown a tendency to stick.

Separately from the recall for sticking accelerator pedals, Toyota is in the process of recalling vehicles to address rare instances in which floor mats have trapped the accelerator pedal in certain Toyota and Lexus models (announced November 25, 2009), and is already notifying customers about how it will fix this issue. In the case of vehicles covered by both recalls, it is Toyota’s intention to remedy both at the same time.

iPhone 4G and iPhone OS 4.0 to be revealed next week? Read more: iPhone 4G and iPhone OS 4.0 to be revealed next week?

As we all gear up to the Apple event next Wednesday (27th Jan), most are already certain that we’ll be seeing Apple launch their first tablet Mac aka iSlate / iTablet. However, some are speculating that this isn’t all that Apple may be hiding. The latest rumor surrounding this suggests a brand new fourth generation iPhone 4G may be unveiled as soon as next week or this coming Summer. Its analysis by various sites differs at the moment but some believe there will be an iPhone 4G on the basis of the latest revealed shots of iPhone firmware OS in version 4.0.

Gizmodo have a nice summary of all the latest rumors about the new iPhone, here are some of the main points:

The fourth generation iPhones will most probably pack an ARM Cortex-A9 processor with a clock around 1GHz (though I wouldn’t be surprised if it uses the same hardware as 3GS).
The storage will probably be doubled again and the fourth gen iPhone will most probably pack 16, 32 and 64 GB storage options.
Camera will go up to 5 megapixel for sure, but the LED flash is not so certain.
There is a high probability we’ll see a brand-new AMOLED capacitive display on the new Apple device, but don’t expect a bump in the resolution, at least not in 2010.
The stuff that is on the user’s wishlist but is quite unlikely to appear is a stylus, a removable battery, a glowing Apple logo, new design, 4G network support, a videocall camera or touch-sensitive casing. A CDMA version is also rumored with chances being about 50/50.

As for the leaked iPhone OS 4.0, possible features we might see include:

There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
“A few new ways” to run applications in the background—multitasking.
Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.
We’ll be bringing you more info on what will be launched next week – 27th January.

Adobe protests against Apple for not using flash on the iPad with porn

Since the iPad launched last week, we’ve all come to realise that Apple has yet again decided not to provide its latest device with flash. It seems the one who is most bothered by this isn’t the users, Adobe has been so bothered by Apple for excluding Flash from the new iPad that it put porn up on its blog to prove the point.

Adobe’s official Flash Blog has a post entitled “The iPad provides the ultimate browsing experience?” which shows how several popular websites would look without Flash content. Right at the bottom is a screenshot of Bang Bros HD, a hardcore porn site! Ok, you’ve proven your point!

ExoPC Slate iPad like Windows 7 tablet PC

This New Year seems to be getting flooded by tablet computers. Leading its way, Apple recently announced its latest upcoming tablet PC namely iPad. Now, here is the new Windows 7 tablet PC – ExoPC which looks much like the Apple iPad.

Although it is a tablet PC, the developers have provided it with netbook like specifications, which surely make it a powerful one. Apple iPad like looks adds to the overall killer X Factors of ExoPC Slate. Unlike most of the tablet PCs, this one is runs on Windows 7.

But one thing is clear that apart from looks, ExoPC has borrowed nothing from Apple iPad. ExoPC Slate is powered by a 1.6GHz Atom N270. And its 2GB DDR2 memory supplies all the required power to offer seamless performance.

With a 8.9 inch touch screen display screen, it displays the sheer multitouch technology. It features 32GB hard disk space for data storage and can be further expandable using micro SD cards. It also offers you with a battery life of 4 complete hours. Unlike Apple iPad, it is not expected to deliver sloppy performance because of its netbook like specifications.

It is expected to hit the markets by coming March with a price tag of $599 which is very much similar to 32GB Apple iPad. But if you cannot wait to lay your hands on it, then you can buy its non-multitouch prototype for $780 from its French order page.

Track and navigate with Casio’s latest hybrid GPS camera

Casio has recently revealed its first compact digital camera. You must be thinking what’s so special in it. It’s just another digital camera. Well, the special feature is that it can track the way you are going to. It can guess that the big blue strip at the top is probably the sky. Yes, Casio Exilim EX-H10HG has ‘Hybrid GPS’ built-in support.

Camera has a 32-bit processing unit that uses three-axis accelerometer and axis orientation sensors. Accelerometer is functionality or may be we can call it a gizmo that can tell the camera which way up it was when you took a shot and allow auto-rotation of images.

Integrated Hybrid GPS does the regular geotagging with onboard GPS. However, if it could not receive signals from GPS satellites, the camera uses the accelerometer to track your movement in space & location-stamp the images. This enables it to keep track of the distance it has traveled since it was last able to receive signal from satellites.

Though it’s not quiet sure, you can navigate with the camera as it has built-in maps that can be displayed on the screen. It can show your where abouts and also plot a tag to mark where photos have been taken.

However, this is a prototype model and still isn’t available for customers. Casio is known to bring prototypes in the actual market quickly. So we may expect this cool digital camera to track your way soon.
